Earlier in 2021, PermaJet and Canon teamed up to launch a major print contest. The judging is done and the results are in

The contest’s theme was ‘Light in the Dark’ so one that was open to creative interpretation and it was certainly an opportunity embraced keenly by the many entrants. “During the height of the pandemic in 2020 we felt that photographers needed something to inspire and motivate them, which is why we came up with the Light in the Dark competition,” explained PermaJet managing director Robin Whetton. “We had some wonderful entries, many of which proved how photography was a life saver for so many people, giving them something to focus on during the dark times.”

The judging panel comprised Louise Hill, PermaJet representative and head of The Photographic Academy; Mike McNamee, editor of Professional Imagemaker; and Sanjay Jogia, professional photographer and Canon ambassador.

“Being able to judge prints again after the long period of Covid-19 was very enriching for us all. The standard and interpretation of the theme from the entrants was well executed which made the task of choosing the awards an even harder task. Many congratulations to all the winners,” commented Louise Hill.

“It was a pleasure to judge,” added Mike McNamee, while Sanjay Jogia said: “The images were diverse in skill set and genre but all enjoyable, nonetheless, and I admire and congratulate everyone for making the effort to enter.”

Chris Frazer Smith won first prize and receives a Canon PRO-300 printer and a PermaJet Art Pack, a package worth over £750. Second place went to Tony Cook who receives a £250 PermaJet Voucher and third went to Mark Banks who wins a Print to Perfection course at The Photographic Academy.

There were also judge’s choice awards. Louise Hill and Mike McNamee both chose Henry Szwinto’s entry and Sanjay Jogia selected Mark Hume’s image. Each wins a pack of PermaJet A3 paper

Well done to all the winners.
