Vivo launches V40 smartphones with Zeiss-enhanced portrait feature

Posted on Aug 7, 2024

Vivo has launched the V40 series, comprising the V40 and V40 Pro, which the company claims will revolutionise mobile portrait photography

The Vivo V40 series features a new portrait photography system co-engineered with Zeiss, which it says is designed to meet the highest standards of imaging performance.

V40 Cameras

Both models feature a 50MP Zeiss OIS Main Camera, with the V40 Pro utilising the new 1/1.56-inch Sony IMX921 sensor and the V40 equipped with the Samsung Isocell GNJ Sensor. These cameras boast a fast f/1.88 aperture for improved performance in low-light.

The V40 Pro also includes a 50 MP Zeiss Telephoto Portrait Camera with the Sony IMX816 sensor, offering 2x optical zoom and up to 50x ZEISS Ultra HD digital zoom.

In addition to the min camera, both models are equipped with a 50MP Zeiss Ultra Wide-Angle Camera with an f/2.0 aperture and a 119° field of view, designed for landscapes and group shots.

Additionally, the front 50MP Zeiss Group Selfie Camera, enhanced with AI Facial Contouring Technology, delivers detailed and natural-looking selfies.

Zeiss portrait capabilities

The V40 series also introduces something called Zeiss Multifocal Portrait, which allows users to integrate professional portrait focal lengths into their mobile photography.

The V40 Pro offers focal lengths of 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 100mm, while the V40 supports 24mm, 35mm and 50mm. There are also a number of portrait templates that are optimised for specific scenarios.

For video enthusiasts, the V40 series offers cinematic video capabilities in 4K resolution. The Zeiss Cinematic Bokeh Video feature creates an oval bokeh effect with a 2:39:1 aspect ratio, providing a film-like aesthetic.

Zeiss Focus Transition ensures smooth focus transitions, maintaining the main subject in sharp focus throughout the shot.

Improved lighting

Vivo also claims that the AI Aura Light Portrait feature in the V40 Pro delivers studio-quality lighting with a smaller, more powerful light and electronically controlled dimming technology.

The Vivo V40 series is available now in India and Vivo says it will roll out to other markets “gradually”. Visit the Vivo website for more information.
