TIPA World Awards prize-giving

Photography News editor Will Cheung attended the prize-giving event in Tokyo

While the TIPA World Awards winners were announced last month and details published in PN issue 66, today, in Tokyo actual trophies were presented to the winners and Photography News editor Will Cheung was on hand to witness the event.

TIPA is a worldwide organisation comprising 30 publications from 14 countries. Each year, TIPA members, which includes Photography News, get together and vote for the best imaging products launched that year. TIPA prestigious Awards are highly sought after and you see a product marked with the TIPA logo, you can be assured it is a leading product.

Canon scooped four awards. Best Full Frame Camera Advanced, the EOS RP; Best Mirrorless Prime Standard Lens RF50mm f/1.2 L USM; Best APS-C Mirrorless Prime lens, EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM; and Best DSLR Professional Prime lens, the EF400mm f/2.8 IS III USM.

Sony was the most successful brand at this year’s TIPA Awards, winning five categories including for Best Superzoom Compact Camera with its RX100 IV and Best Mirrorless Professional lens, the FE 400mm f/2.8 GIM OSS.

Leading independent lens brand Sigma captured four awards which included a special award for its commitment to the L-Mount Alliance along with Leica and Panasonic. For its own products Sigma won Best DSLR Telephoto Lens, 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM / Sports; Best DSLR Professional Zoom Lens, the 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM / Sports; and the Best DSLR Prime Lens 40mm f/1.4 DG HSM / Art. The 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM lens was tested in PN issue 67.
