Thumb-sized Insta360 GO 3S offers 4K video

Posted on Jun 13, 2024

Insta360 has introduced the latest addition to its compact camera lineup, the Insta360 GO 3S

Maintaining the tiny form factor of its predecessor, the GO 3, the GO 3S comes with significant upgrades, most notably 4K video resolution.

Video and image quality

The GO 3S offers 4K/30p, which improves on the GO 3’s 2.7K resolution. This is complemented by an enhanced chip with 50% more CPU power and a new wide-angle lens.

The camera also promises less distortion and includes Dolby Vision-ready HDR technology to enhance dynamic range and detail. Slow motion capabilities are also improved, allowing up to 200fps at 1080p and 100fps at 2.7K.

Interval video shooting

The GO 3S introduces an interval video mode, enabling users to set intervals for automatic shooting. The camera automatically switches on and begins recording at preset times.

This works in conjunction with an Instant App Preview feature, available for iOS, that sends notifications to users’ phones when shooting is complete, allowing for immediate editing.

Furthermore, an Auto Edit function in the Insta360 app uses AI to compile clips into a cohesive video, so you can go completely hands-free.

Magnetic mounting

Weighing just 39 grams, the GO 3S is designed for hands-free operation, easily worn on clothing or mounted magnetically using various included accessories.

The camera uses the same Action Pod as the GO 3, which works as a housing, remote control, and charger, and features a 2.2-inch flip touchscreen for shot previews.

Additional improvements

The GO 3S now includes Apple Find My compatibility for locating lost cameras and improved waterproofing to 33 feet. There is also an AI gesture control feature that enables starting and stopping recordings with hand gestures.

Price and availability

The Insta360 GO 3S is available for £349.99 for the 64GB model and £369.99 for the 128GB model, available in Arctic White and Midnight Black. A standalone version without the Action Pod and accessories is also available for £209.99 and £229.99, respectively.
