The Photography News 2024 Awards

It’s time to vote for the best of the best photography products and services in imaging’s most prestigious awards – the Photography News 2024 Awards

NOTE: VOTING FOR THE PHOTOGRAPHY NEWS 2024 AWARDS IS NOW CLOSED

The experts from PN have shortlisted products and businesses across every imaginable category, and now we need you and your expertise to decide the winners.

The Photography News Awards were originally introduced to recognise the best photography products and services; that aim remains as strong today as it did then. We believe it’s your opinion that matters most, so unlike other industry accolades, the winners of the PN 2024 Awards are not decided by the magazine team but by reader vote.

This is your opportunity to reward the photography brands that make a difference by recognising all the hard work required to manufacture the cameras, lenses and other products you love. It could be a groundbreaking camera that helped you frame the picture of a lifetime, the SD card that ensured it was safely recorded and delivered to your computer, or the processing lab that helped you display it in all its glory on your wall.

The process is simple: across 46 categories, which cover every key aspect of modern image making, the PN team nominate what they consider the best products or businesses in each category, and then you, the readers are invited to vote.

The categories are split across six areas: cameras, lenses, accessories, lighting, workflow and retailers & services.

Read on to learn more or click below to browse the full list and decide which products you want to reward.

Cameras

The camera market is hugely competitive, which explains why there are so many wonderfully capable products out there vying for your attention – and your vote.

From the portability and user convenience of Micro Four Thirds and APS-C sensors, right through to the ultimate picture quality of full-frame and medium format. And we can’t forget the simpler pleasures of instant-film and compact cameras.

Each is blessed with excellent credentials for capturing first-rate stills, video or both, and most benefit from a fantastic selection of lenses. To be honest, any of the models listed below would be a worthy winner. It’s a tough choice to make, but you can only vote for one.

Lenses

Lens development continues to advance apace. With mirrorless cameras eliminating the reflex mirror, lens designers have more headroom to work with, leading to faster, wider and more extreme lenses than ever before – all without compromising optical performance. This is no more evident than in this year’s compilation of lenses for you to consider.

Our selection includes a broad mix of primes and zooms of all focal lengths, all of which are exceptional performers. We make no apology for the length of this not- so-short shortlist, but such is the progress in lens technology that we wanted to offer the broadest choice. Here’s our pick of the best lenses money can buy.

Accessories

Start shooting stills or video to any degree of seriousness, and you’ll soon realise that you won’t achieve the desired results without the help of some essential accessories.

From the practicality, protection and security of a good camera bag to the more creative opportunities that come with the stability of a reliable tripod or good-quality filter system, these tools are indispensable.

Video-specific requirements are even more demanding, requiring larger and brighter displays from video monitors as well as the superior sound only possible with an external microphone. Here, we’ve shortlisted a selection of the outstanding models in this heavily populated market – the rest is up to you.

Lighting

Light sits at the very heart of photography and videography. Not only can it mean the difference between an average image and a great image, but at the most fundamental level, without light there is no image at all.

For many genres, using what’s available naturally is enough, but there are others for which having the ability to control the light is essential. For them, there is a seemingly endless array of options in an area that has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years.

From mains-powered studio set-ups to super-portable battery-powered units, hotshoe flashes and revolutionary LEDs, our selection has something for everyone – whether you’re in the studio or on the go.

Workflow

As we all know, there is more to creating a great image than just pressing the shutter release button. Depending on your goal, this journey can be a long one, with many different legs requiring various tools.

Our workflow shortlist includes a selection of the best instruments on the market for a number of key processes – from monitors, colorimeters and editing software to photographic printers and the paper they use – not forgetting memory cards and external storage devices to ensure your final images are stored safely.

Whether you’re a professional portrait photographer or event shooter, camera club member or family documentarian, there’s an enormous range of impressive products to choose from.

Retailers & services

While the faces of the retail and service industries have undergone massive transformations in recent years, the need for great service, expert knowledge and independent advice remains crucial for a business to succeed.

You could be looking to buy your dream camera or selling old kit gathering dust at the back of the cupboard. Maybe you’re after the best-quality prints, looking to learn something new or shopping around for the best insurance policy. Whatever it is, our nominees pride themselves in offering excellent service, high quality and value for money.

Whether you’re a regular customer or just recently tried a new store, if you have had a great buying experience from one of our shortlisted retailers, reward them with your vote.
