Sony World Photography Awards 2025 winner announced

The winners of the 2025 Sony World Photography Awards were revealed last night during a prestigious ceremony at Somerset House

British photographer Zed Nelson claimed the coveted Photographer of the Year title for his compelling series The Anthropocene Illusion. Capturing humanity’s artificial interactions with nature across four continents, the six-year project critiques the paradox between environmental destruction and curated ‘natural’ experiences.

Nelson was awarded $25,000 and Sony digital imaging equipment, along with the opportunity to exhibit new work in 2026.

This year’s ceremony also recognised Susan Meiselas, a pioneering documentary photographer, with the Outstanding Contribution to Photography award. A dedicated showcase of her work is now open to the public as part of the official exhibition, which runs at Somerset House until 5 May.

The Sony World Photography Awards exhibition features over 300 prints and multimedia works, offering a powerful lens into contemporary photographic practice. Visit the website for details.
