Sigma has announced the release of its updated 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN II | Art lens, compatible with L-Mount and Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras
Sigma says this new version includes enhanced optical performance, faster autofocus, and improved usability for photographers and filmmakers using mirrorless systems.
Optical performance enhancements
The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN II | Art lens comes promising improved resolution throughout the zoom range. The lens features six FLD glass elements, two SLD glass elements and five aspherical lens elements, which aim to reduce aberrations and chromatic fringing.
The constant f/2.8 aperture is said to create soft bokeh and pleasing background separation, while a close focusing distance of 17cm achieves a maximum magnification of 1:2.7.
Sigma tells us the optical design also minimises focus breathing, making it suitable for video recording with consistent focus transitions.
Autofocus
The lens’s AF is driven by Sigma’s high-response linear actuator (HLA) motor, which, according to Sigma, increases autofocus speed by over three times compared to the previous model.
It includes two customisable AFL buttons and a built-in aperture ring as on-lens controls. The aperture ring is de-clickable and features a lock switch to avoid unwanted changes.
Design and build
The 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II is said to be 7% smaller and 10% lighter than its predecessor, weighing 745g. It also features a dust and splash-resistant structure, with a water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element.
Additional features
The lens features a zoom lock switch to secure the lens barrel at 24mm, preventing unintended extension, while a petal-type lens hood with a locking mechanism is also included.
The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art will go on sale on 30 May 2024, priced at £1,179. For further information, visit Sigma’s official website.
