Panasonic announces the Lumix G97

Compact and versatile, the Lumix G97 includes features aimed at improving image quality, stabilisation, and creative control.

Image quality

The Lumix G97 features a 20.3-megapixel CMOS sensor paired with the Venus Engine processor, delivering detailed images with vibrant colour reproduction.

It includes the Photo Style mode, which allows users to adjust colour effects and tones to suit their creative preferences.

For long-exposure photography, the Live View Composite mode enables real-time blending of multiple exposures.

This function is particularly useful for capturing light trails, star trails, or illuminated scenes without risking overexposure.

Performance

The camera is equipped with Panasonic’s 5-axis Dual I.S.2 system, providing up to five stops of image stabilisation, while the 4K Photo mode allows users to extract high-resolution still images at 30fps from video bursts.

Video features

On the video front, the Lumix G97 records 4K at 30p without time limitations. It also supports slow-motion recording at 4x and quick-motion at 8x in Full HD.

The inclusion of 12 stops of V-Log L enhances dynamic range for more cinematic footage. Audio recording is supported with dedicated microphone and headphone ports for improved sound control.

Design and connectivity

The G97 features a 1.84m-dot free-angle LCD screen and a 2.36m-dot OLED viewfinder for accurate framing and focusing in bright environments and its dust- and splash-resistant build adds durability for use in varying conditions.

The camera also includes Bluetooth v5.0 for wireless sharing and USB Type-C charging for convenience.

Pricing and availability

The Lumix G97 will be available from February 2025. Pricing is set at £699 for the body only, £799 for the 12-60mm lens kit, and £899 for the 14-140mm lens kit.
