Nikon announces COOLPIX P1100 with 125x optical zoom

Nikon introduces a new compact digital camera with extended zoom capabilities and updated features

Nikon has unveiled the COOLPIX P1100, a compact digital camera featuring 125x optical zoom. The model builds on the features of its predecessor, the COOLPIX P1000.

The COOLPIX P1100 offers a 24–3000mm focal range, allowing users to capture a variety of subjects, from landscapes to distant objects. The Dynamic Fine Zoom extends the range to 250x (6000mm equivalent), providing additional reach for detailed shots.

A new selectable AF-area mode in Bird-watching mode enhances focusing precision. Additionally, users can assign functions to the Fn1/Fn2 buttons on the optional ML-L7 Remote Control, offering increased control during remote shooting.

The camera uses Nikon’s EXPEED image processor and a NIKKOR lens. Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) is designed to provide stabilisation equivalent to 4.0 stops, reducing camera shake at long focal lengths. The P1100 also supports 4K/30p video recording, as well as superlapse and time-lapse modes.

The camera weighs 1,410g and features a deep grip for handheld stability, along with a focus-mode selector and control ring for quick access to settings such as white balance and manual focus. The P1100 is compatible with Nikon accessories, including Speedlights and dot sights to aid composition at long focal lengths.

With such a feature set, the COOLPIX P1100 could make a great starting point for photographers interested in exploring super-telephoto photography.

The camera will be available from 27th February 2025 at a recommended retail price of £1,049. Find out more at the Nikon website.
