New Sony 28-70mm f/2 constant zoom
Sony has announced the release of the Sony 28-70mm f/2, the company’s first constant f/2 aperture zoom lens within its G Master series
Designed for full-frame E-mount cameras, the 28-70mm f/2 G Master combines a wide focal range, a fast aperture and a compact design. It is aimed at both photographers and videographers.
Advanced optical performance
Made up of 20 elements in 14 groups, the lens includes three XA (extreme aspherical) and three aspherical elements which Sony says reduce aberrations and deliver sharp detail across the frame.
Additionally, Sony tells us that chromatic aberrations are minimised with Super ED and ED elements, while Nano AR Coating II is designed to reduce flare and reflections.
The 28-70mm f/2 also features an 11-blade circular aperture promising smooth bokeh.
Compact and lightweight design
The 28-70mm f/2 remains relatively compact at 92.9mm x 139.8mm and weighs 918g. It is built for flexibility, supporting both handheld and gimbal-based workflows.
Autofocus is powered by four XD linear motors, suitable for stills and high-speed continuous shooting up to 120fps.
Video capabilities
The lens includes features tailored for video production, such as reduced focus breathing and silent operation. It is also compatible with Sony Alpha bodies offering the Breathing Compensation feature.
Availability and pricing
Scheduled for release in December 2024, the Sony 28-70mm f/2 will retail for £3,049. Find out more at the Sony website.
