New prizes announced in Young Railway Photographer of the Year
The Young Railway Photographer of the Year competition has unveiled an impressive range of new prizes, offering budding photographers a great opportunity
Organised by the National Railway Museum and the Railway Photographic Society, the competition is open to photographers aged 25 and under.
Entries are invited until 31 January 2025, with participants submitting a portfolio of six images themed around Railway 200, the bicentenary of the modern railway in 2025.
New prizes
Key prizes include three Fujifilm X-T5 cameras with XF16-50mm lenses for the overall winner and category victors (18 and under, and 19-25).
Additional rewards feature a tour of Network Rail’s new measurement train, a GB Railfreight cab simulator experience and tickets for heritage railway journeys.
Exhibition
Shortlisted photographs will be displayed at the National Railway Museum in York and Locomotion in Shildon, as part of Railway 200 exhibitions planned for 2025.
Entry
The competition welcomes entries from photographers of all skill levels, using any equipment, from smartphones to professional cameras. Past submissions have spanned station architecture, historic steam engines and dynamic rail landscapes.
