New Leica SL3-S announced

Leica has announced the launch of the SL3-S, the latest camera in its SL-System range which it says focuses on “speed, flexibility and versatility”

The SL3-S features a 24-megapixel BSI CMOS full-frame sensor with multi-shot modes offering resolutions of up to 96 megapixels.

Its autofocus system combines phase detection, depth map and contrast detection technologies, allowing for shooting speeds of up to 30 frames per second with full autofocus support.

An ISO range spanning 50 to 200,000 and an IP54-certified body enhance its usability in varied environments.

On the video side, the camera supports 6K recording, with additional features like 3:2 open-gate recording and 4K portrait-format capture.

Internal recording includes ProRes 4:2:2 HQ, while external RAW recording is enabled via HDMI.

The SL3-S also offers direct SSD recording through USB-C and includes a timecode interface for synchronising video and audio.

A notable first for the SL-System is the inclusion of content credentials technology, part of the Content Authenticity Initiative, which allows users to embed secure metadata to verify image authenticity and edits.

Connectivity features include dual card slots, Wi-Fi with MIMO, and Bluetooth. Compatibility with Adobe frame.io cloud workflows is expected to arrive later in the year.

Other highlights include Leica’s 5.76m-pixel, 120fps ‘EyeRes’ electronic viewfinder, a tilting 3.2-inch touchscreen and compatibility with a wide range of lenses, including M-Lenses and those from L-Mount Alliance partners.

The SL3-S is priced at £4,500 and is now available through Leica stores, its online platform, and authorised dealers worldwide. Find out more at the Leica website.
