Leica’s new M11-D replaces LCD with ISO dial

Leica has introduced the M11-D, the latest model in its M series, offering a blend of analogue-inspired design with modern digital features
The new release is aimed at photographers seeking a more simplified shooting experience, reminiscent of film cameras, while still benefiting from contemporary advancements.
One of the key design changes in the Leica M11-D is the removal of the traditional rear LCD screen, which has been replaced by a large ISO dial. This is designed to encourage users to focus on essential photography elements like composition, aperture, shutter speed and ISO, echoing the manual handling of older cameras.
While features like selecting file formats, white balance settings and image review are not accessible on the camera itself, they can be controlled via Leica’s Fotos app, along with remote control, photo transfer, and geotagging.
The M11-D’s connectivity features include Bluetooth and direct cable connection, with the camera being certified for iPhone and iPad integration.

Technically, the M11-D is equipped with Leica’s full-frame sensor and its Triple Resolution Technology, allowing users to select between 60MP, 36MP or 18MP resolution for their images. The camera also supports continuous shooting at 60MP, achieving up to five frames per second, backed by a 3GB cache. The ISO range is 64 to 50,000, while the 256GB internal storage provides substantial space.
Weighing 540g, the M11-D is lighter than its predecessor by 115g and the camera maintains compatibility with Leica’s M-series lenses, offering options for those with existing collections.
The camera also features the hardware-based Content Credentials, which aims to help verify the authenticity of digital images, aligning with standards set by the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) and the C2PA.
