The Kraszna-Krausz Foundation has revealed the winners of the 2024 Kraszna-Krausz Photography and Moving Image Book Awards
The Kraszna-Krausz Photography and Moving Image Book Awards recognise exceptional contributions to photography and moving image book publishing.
Kraszna-Krausz Photography Book Award winner
Hristina Tasheva clinched the 2024 Kraszna-Krausz Photography Book Award with her self-published work, Far Away From Home: The Voices, the Body and the Periphery.
Tasheva’s book explores the divergent experiences of the Dutch and Bulgarian societies as they were impacted by communism during the rise and fall of Nazi Germany.
Combining contemporary photography, archival research, and found imagery, the book also features a poignant pressed flower collected from visits to Dachau and Mauthausen concentration camp memorials.
Kraszna-Krausz Moving Image Book Award winner
Jie Li received the 2024 Kraszna-Krausz Moving Image Book Award for “Cinematic Guerrillas: Propaganda, Projectionists, and Audiences in Socialist China”, published by Columbia University Press.
This insightful work delves into the history of Chinese film exhibition and reception, offering a unique perspective on the influence and limitations of propaganda.
Li’s book is informed by extensive archival research, memoirs, interviews, and ethnographic fieldwork.
Tasheva and Li will share the £10,000 prize fund equally. The Kraszna-Krausz Foundation will also host a series of events in London this autumn to celebrate the winners.
These events will be held in partnership with the Barbican for the Moving Image Book Award and the V&A South Kensington for the Photography Book Award.
