The Nature in Action photography competition – hosted by the Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers (SINWP) – has announced this year’s winners. Cecilie Stuedal took first place with ‘Kick the can’, which depicts a sparrowhawk attacking a jay. Cecilie captured this stunning image in Dalen, Norway with a Nikon D500 and Nikkor 180-400mm lens.
John Cumber and Ann Aveyard came in second and third places, respectively. John’s image presents a parakeet chasing a rat down a tree, while Ann’s features a stag buried beneath dried ferns. Additionally, two of Ann’s photos were selected as “highly commended images”.

The other commended images – shot by Alan Jones and Peter Arnold – both feature birds, this time near the water. In Alan’s photo, seagulls swarm a whale, emerging from the ocean and covered in barnacles. In Peter’s, a stork takes flight, its legs and wings extended.
First place winners of the Nature in Action competition receive £100 and a 12-month membership to SINWP, with runners-up receiving six-month memberships.
