Stills Gallery will open its first exhibition focusing on contemporary Ukrainian photography as part of this year’s Edinburgh Art Festival

Running from 2nd August to 5thOctober 2024, the exhibition features work by eight prominent Ukrainian photographers, each delving into the intricate concept of ‘home.’

The exhibition, titled Home: Ukrainian Photography, UK Words, includes contributions from Igor Chekachkov, Alexander Chekmenev, Nazar Furyk, Mykhaylo Palinchak, Polina Polikarpova, Andriy Rachinskiy, Elena Subach and Daria Svertilova. Each artist brings a unique perspective, capturing the essence of home amidst conflict in Ukraine.

The exhibition will also extend into the public spaces of Edinburgh, with select photographs being displayed on posters and flyers throughout the city, paired with poems by UK poets such as Deren Rhys Jones, Jackie Kay, and Hanan Issa.

This collaboration mirrors the exhibition’s first presentation in Liverpool in 2023, where images and poems were similarly paired.

The exhibition is a partnership between Stills, Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool and Ukrainian.Photographies, and is part of a broader touring programme.
