IGPOTY debuts ‘Highlights of Hidcote’ competition

International Garden Photographer of the Year partnering with National Trust Hidcote for first-ever photo award

International Garden Photographer of the Year partnering with National Trust Hidcote for first-ever photo competition

For the first time, International Garden Photographer of the Year (IGPOTY), in conjunction with the National Trust (NT), is running the ‘Highlights of Hidcote’ photo competition. Free to enter, the competition centres around Hidcote Garden, an outdoor sanctuary located in the Cotswold hills. First, second, and third prize winners will enjoy an exclusive exhibition at NT Hidcote in addition to other awards.

In 1907, Lawrence Johnston purchased the Hidcote estate, which then had little established garden space. Inspired by art, Johnston gradually created the garden, adding plants, bathing pools, and numerous extensions. Acquired by the Trust in 1948, Hidcote Garden covers 10.5 acres and welcomes approximately 175,000 visitors each year.

The Hidcote competition aims to capture Johnston’s love for the land. To enter, applicants should submit up to eight photos, taken on the Hidcote grounds and in the past five years. All entrants must be over 18 and not currently NT Staff – though volunteers are allowed.

Photos will be judged by IGPOTY and the NT on the basis of skill. In addition to an exhibition, first prize winners will get a private garden tour and afternoon tea with Hidcote head gardener Lottie Allen, with second prize receiving a £50 NT gift certificate and third prize cream tea for two.

The competition closes on 30 June 2023 at 12 pm GMT. To enter, visit the IGPOTY website.
