Fujifilm announces XF500mm f/5.6 super-telephoto prime
Fujifilm has confirmed the release of its new XF500mm f/5.6 R LM OIS WR super-telephoto prime lens for X Series cameras
Designed for use with the company’s X Series mirrorless cameras, the XF500mm f/5.6 super-telephoto prime lens offers a focal length equivalent to 762mm in 35mm format, positioning it as the longest prime lens in the XF range.
Its optical construction includes 21 elements in 14 groups, incorporating five ED and two super ED elements.
This arrangement is intended to reduce chromatic aberration and improve image clarity, which Fujifilm says makes it suitable for detailed wildlife, sports and aviation photography.
Features
The lens features a 5.5-stop optical image stabilisation system, aimed at ensuring stable shots when shooting handheld at longer focal lengths.
For additional versatility, it is compatible with Fujifilm’s teleconverters. When used with the XF1.4X teleconverter, the lens extends to 700mm (1,067mm full-frame equivalent), and up to 1,000mm (1,524mm full-frame equivalent) when paired with the XF2.0X teleconverter.
Autofocus performance is enhanced by a linear motor that provides fast and quiet focusing, with a claimed approximate speed of 0.33 seconds.
Additional functions such as focus preset and a focus limiter are included to assist photographers in efficiently managing focus for different scenarios.
Build
The XF500mm f/5.6 weighs a respectable 1,335g and is designed for use in challenging environments, with a weather-resistant structure featuring 20 sealing points, and the ability to operate in temperatures as low as -10°C.
Price and availability
The XF500mm f/5.6 will be available from 28th November 2024 priced at £2,899. For more information visit the Fujifilm website.
