The Standard Chartered Weather Photographer of the Year 2024 competition is now open for entries

The Standard Chartered Weather Photographer of the Year 2024 competition, now in its ninth year, is officially open for entries

Spearheaded by the UK’s Royal Meteorological Society, the Weather Photographer of the Year competition aims to capture the stunning, often dramatic dynamics of weather and climate through the lens of photography.

Open to photographers worldwide, the contest serves as a platform for highlighting the pressing environmental challenges of our time, including extreme weather events like heatwaves, cyclones, and severe flooding, while also celebrating the breathtaking beauty and formidable power of nature.

This year introduces the Standard Chartered Climate Award, which carries a £1,000 prize for the photo that most effectively communicates the impacts of climate change.

The judging panel has been expanded to include experts from Kenya, Bangladesh, the USA, and the UK, enriching the competition with diverse perspectives in photography, photojournalism, weather, and climate science.

Shafts of sunlight stream through a canopy of large trees, illuminating the mist and two silhouetted figures, one leading an ox along a rustic path.
A solitary tree stands against the backdrop of a twilight sky, with a surreal, spiraling noctilucent cloud glowing above the rolling hills.
A night sky glittering with stars over mountainous terrain, with the rare red sprite lightning phenomenon visible above the peaks, adding a touch of mystery to the scene.
