Comedy Wildlife Awards winners announced
The 2024 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards winning photographs were unveiled at the Oxo Gallery in London on 10th December
Italian photographer Milko Marchetti claimed the overall title. His winning shot, “Stuck Squirrel,” shows a red squirrel twisting at an unusual angle as it enters an old woodpecker’s nest, prompting laughter among judges and viewers alike.
Organisers say over 9,000 images were submitted this year, marking a record in the competition’s ten-year history.
Founded in 2015 by Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam, the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards recognise both professional and amateur talent, while also promoting conservation efforts.
Marchetti’s success earns him a safari in the Masai Mara, a handmade trophy, and a photography bag from Think Tank.
The judging panel selected 45 images for final review, with tight competition at the top. Alongside the overall winner, several category winners were named. Notable mentions include young photographers such as Australia’s Kingston Tam in the Nikon Young Photographer Award, and Sarthak Ranganadhan and Flynn Thaitanunde-Lobb in the junior categories.
From 11–15 December, the Oxo Gallery hosts a free exhibition showcasing all the 2024 finalists.
A portion of the competition’s net revenue supports the Whitley Fund for Nature, a UK charity backing conservation leaders worldwide.
