Having launched in 1991, the New Cosmos of Photography competition has received over 29,398 entries from both individuals and groups across the world. The competition is open to photographers worldwide, with the aim of discovering, nurturing and supporting developing photographers who want to explore new and creative ways to engage with photography and video.

This year’s judges include Emilia van Lynden, artistic director of the Dutch photo and video exhibition, Unseen, and Sandra Phillips, curator emerita of photography at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).

The grand prize winner on the competition will receive one million JPY, a Canon product and have the opportunity to host an individual exhibit at the New Cosmos of Photography 2020 exhibition, while seven Excellence Award winners and 14 Honourable Mention Award winners will also receive prize money and the chance to display their work.

Entries can be submitted either by post or online and entered as individuals or groups. The competition closes 12 June 2019 and winners will be contacted at the end of July 2019.
