Amateur Motorsport Photography Awards 2024 winners announced

Designed to spotlight exceptional amateur talent in UK motorsport photography, the awards celebrate the skill and creativity of photographers capturing the thrill of motorsport from diverse perspectives.

After thorough judging at the iconic Silverstone Circuit, winners were announced across three categories, with an overall champion named Amateur Motorsport Photographer of the Year 2024.

The overall winner, Les Gawin, was crowned for his reflective image capturing the spirit of Goodwood Revival (pictured above).

Winners of individual categories included Richard Newby for a high-energy rallying image in the On Track Action category. Conversely, Chris Nicholson’s serene, behind-the-scenes morning composition won the Pit Lane and Paddock category. In the Portraits category Joy Richings’ evocative black-and-white sidecar team portrait took the prize.

There were also special recognitions for Sam Pelling who was highly commended for a technically brilliant shot of a Mercedes AMG GT3 and Nicola Sim, who was named Runner Up for her immersive image of classic touring cars in action.

Prizes and recognition

Winners received a range of prizes, including photography gear, workshop vouchers, motorsport experiences, and subscriptions.

Les Gawin, as the overall winner, earned a prestigious £250 workshop voucher, a framed print, a Silverstone driving experience and exclusive motorsport event tickets.

Overall, judges commended the exceptional quality of submissions, many rivalling professional standards.
