2025 World Press Photo Award winners announced

The 2025 World Press Photo Award winners have been revealed, showcasing powerful visual storytelling from across the globe

This year’s contest highlights the resilience of communities amid conflict, climate crisis and social upheaval.

Ugandan photographer Marijn Fidder captured the Africa Singles prize with a striking image of amputee bodybuilder Tamale Safalu, while Mosab Abushama’s wedding portrait taken in war-torn Sudan also stood out. The Asia-Pacific Singles award went to Jae C. Hong for an emotional family reunion linked to Korea’s adoption fraud scandals.

In long-term projects, Cinzia Canneri’s harrowing documentation of sexual violence against Eritrean and Tigrayan women earned recognition, alongside Ebrahim Alipoor’s work on Kurdish kolbars in Iran.

Across the Stories category, photojournalists captured key global moments – from Gaza’s devastation to youth-led protests in Kenya. Notable among them is Ali Jadallah’s intimate reporting from inside Gaza, where access for international press has been limited.

The World Press Photo Foundation continues to champion press freedom and photojournalism’s vital role in documenting truth. The award-winning images will be part of a global exhibition touring over 60 cities.
