Sigma announces 28-45mm f/1.8 zoom lens

Posted on Jun 3, 2024

Sigma has introduced the 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN Art lens, a full-frame mirrorless zoom lens with a constant maximum aperture of f/1.8

This new lens will be available for L-Mount and Sony E-Mount from June 20, 2024, with a retail price of £1299.

Sigma has form producing large-aperture zoom lenses, and its says this latest addition to the Art series aims to deliver optical performance comparable to prime lenses. The lens is being marketed to both photographers and filmmakers.

Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 zoom lens features

The lens features a wide constant maximum aperture of f/1.8 across the zoom range, which will offer low light capabilities that rival many prime lenses.

It comprises 18 elements in 15 groups, including five SLD elements and three aspherical elements. As such, Sigma promises minimal aberrations and clear images, complemented by lens coatings to reduce flare and ghosting.

The 28-45mm f/1.8 weighs under 1kg and uses an inner zoom mechanism to keep the lens’ physical length constant. This not only helps with balance and stability but also facilitates a dust- and weather-resistant design.

Sigma is positioning this as a lens for both photographers and videographers, stating that the lens experiences minimal focus breathing. It also uses Sigma’s High-response Linear Actuator (HLA) autofocus system which is designed to provide fast and silent focusing.

Furthermore, on-lens controls feature an aperture ring with de-click and lock switches, a focus ring with adjustable torque, and two customisable AFL buttons, which Sigma says make controls easy to reach in both horizontal and vertical shooting positions.
