Tuesday 2 October saw the launch of the annual Sony World Photography Awards, with a word of advice from the chair of judges, Mike Trow, for potential entrants.

The internationally renowned competition, hosted by the World Photography Organisation, provides a global stage for photographers of all levels in over 50 countries to showcase their work. The open competition is judged by industry leading experts on a single image across ten categories, with sub competitions for students and youth photographers.

As well as worldwide recognition and cash prizes, the winners can also secure Sony grant money of up to $7000 (USD) to help fund future professional photographic projects.

Mike Trow says, “What makes the Sony World Photography Awards so exciting is the range of subjects and global reach of the stories and images selected. My advice for entrants is to choose your categories carefully and believe in your story”.
